Biography:

Professor Gangyi Tan is a distinguished scholar in architecture and urban planning. He is a Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and Dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning. He also serves as Director of the Village and Town Construction Development Research Center of Hubei Province, Deputy Director of the Hubei Engineering and Technology Research Center of Urbanization, and Director of The Built Heritage Research Center at HUST. He holds key academic roles, including Deputy Editor-in-Chief of New Architecture (China), Standing Council Member of the Architectural Education Committee, Deputy Director of the Residential Architecture Academic Committee of the Architectural Society of China, and Deputy Director of the Residential Architecture Committee of the National Architecture Institute of China. His research focuses on architectural history, theory, and cultural heritage conservation. He has authored nine monographs and published over 80 papers. He has led four National Natural Science Foundation of China projects and a UK Royal Academy of Engineering project. His work has earned prestigious awards, including the National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Nomination Award, the Outstanding Project Award, and the IDA International Design Gold Award. In 2019, he was honored as a National Outstanding Teacher under the Baosteel Education Fund.
